Here at Eldritch Cat Press we treat every story with care, intention and a deep respect for the author’s voice and creativity. However, we also hold our publications to a high editorial standard to ensure each anthology is polished, professional, and consistent. This means that, in order to help you feel prepared, please read on to see what you can expect if your piece is accepted for publication.
🔧 Basic Edits (Non-Negotiable)
All accepted stories will receive a full round of copyediting and proofreading to address:
- Grammar
- Spelling
- Punctuation
To reiterate these edits are non-negotiable, and we will apply them as needed to prepare your story for publication. Our goal is always to preserve your voice, not to alter it — but even so your work must meet an acceptable, professional standard before it appears in print.
Please be aware that we won’t engage in back-and-forth conversations on basic edits, since we have to keep our production timeline on track, and if you truly have an issue with the edits that were done to your piece then you do have the ability to withdraw your story up until you sign a contract with us.
✍️ Line Edits (Accept or Decline)
If we feel your story would benefit from line edits we may ask for adjustments to things like:
- Clarity
- Flow and pacing
- Minor plot point changes
- Repetitive wording
If applicable we’ll make these edits and return them to you in a highlighted document for your review, and you’ll have the option of accepting them. For multi-author anthologies we don’t offer developmental editing or deep revision support, though we do with single-author works, but we may occasionally request a larger plot point change that we think would improve your story overall. This would not be mandatory, but would be highly suggested to accept if we come to you with such a request.
🐾 The Eldritch Cat Press Promise
We will never rewrite your story, ask you to completely change your creative direction or alter your core voice. Every story remains yours — haunting, magical, strange — exactly as you intended it, just elevated to meet a professional publishing standard.
If you have questions before submitting don’t hesitate to reach out! We’re here to help your work shine, whether it’s poetic and quiet or sharp and unsettling, so have faith that we’re going to approach your submission with respect, care and a love for the strange.
